The article deals with E. Jelinek's novel "Lust", in which the author considers the self-identification problem traditional for her creative works. Jelinek's idea about the absence of real individuality today is implied in the novel's characters. The characters of the "Lust" are depersonalized and schematic in their appearance and inner world. They can be described as one-dimensional figures without unique features. Their personality is limited by their gender and market orientation (E. Fromm).
