The article speaks about the study of the relationship between the Byzantine Empire and Polovtsian Khans as presented in the work “The Alexiad” by Princess Anna Komnena. The problem of the origin of Polovtsians is examined, and the conclusion is made that the Polovtsian Khans Bonyak and Tugorkan who were mentioned by Princess Anna play an important role in the political formation of False Diogenes the Impostors in the area of the northern Byzantine frontier in the southern Russian steppes at the turn of the 11th-12th centuries.
