The purpose of research is to study the transformation of the position of the male part of the Far Eastern rural population in the 1970s and the first half of the 1980s, and the tasks are to analyze the life of men in the conditions of Soviet modernization and consider their role in the rural society of the east of the country. During the study, both historical and general scientific methods were used. Methods of specific historical analysis were combined with comparative historical, problem chronological, statistical and other methods. The study was conducted on the principles of a concrete historical approach, critical interpretation of sources, and systematization of ideological politicization. Based on a wide range of archival and statistical sources, materials of the periodical press, the author examines the demographic processes in the rural areas of the eastern part of the RSFSR, the professional structure of the villagers, the characteristics of life in the Far Eastern villages, income and time distribution, problems and phenomena that directly affected the male part of rural society. The dependence of men's behavior on the quality of life in rural areas is revealed, as well as changes in family relations that are losing their conservative basis. Of particular value are the statements of the villagers themselves about their lives in the period under review. As a conclusion, it can be noted that under the influence of a complex of diverse trends that actively affect men, there was a change in traditional roles and destabilization of their life in rural areas. The accelerated involvement of the village in the processes of modernization, accompanied by the "urbanization" of consciousness, led to the formation of "urban" thinking and was manifested in the outflow of the most active and qualified part of men to large settlements.
