The assistance of the population of Cherkess and Karachay autonomous regions to military and home fronts during the Great Patriotic War

The study deals with the engagement of the population of Cherkess and Karachay Autonomous Regions in the assistance to military and home fronts during the Great Patriotic War. The paper reveals the peculiarities of financial and material support provided for fronts by the population of the autonomous regions, the challenges and shortcomings of its arrangement, effective/ineffective methods of voluntary involvement and coercion. The research presents the details demonstrating various aspects of the assistance to the Red Army, soldiers’ families and children affected by the war. The study identifies the characteristics of management activities of party and government bodies in order to create and maintain defense fund and intensify patriotism of citizens. In the period under review, society and state came together, and the population of the national territorial subdivisions played an important role in this process. The author concluded that the population of Cherkess and Karachay Autonomous Regions as well as other citizens of the USSR made a significant contribution to the defeat of the enemy and morale building of the Red Army.
