Assistance of the Serbian Orthodox Church to the Russian monasticism of Athos in the 1920s - 1930s

The Relations of the Russian monasteries of Athos, and, first of all, the monastery of St. Panteleimon with Serbia and the Serbian Orthodox Church have a long history. They received special development in the first half of the XX century. In the 1900s, the Russian monasteries of Athos helped the Serbian Orthodox Church: the monasteries of Hilandar and Dechana, as well as various communities. In the 1920s - 1930s, the Serbian Church provided a great deal of material assistance to the Russian monks of Athos, sometimes saving them from starvation. This assistance to the Russian monasteries of the Holy Mountain continued until the beginning of the Second world war. In the difficult interwar period, she helped the monks of Athos in spiritual and material terms, and became a true manifestation of the centuries-old fraternal ties of The Russian and Serbian Churches.
