Understanding of justice in A. Sen's theory

The article is devoted to the philosophical idea of justice by Amartya Sen. In his work "The Idea of Justice" A. Sen actively joins the discussion that developed in the Western philosophy. Sen contrasts his concept of justice with the ideas developed by John Rawls, and such philosophers as Ronald Dworkin, Robert Nozick, etc. The idea that Sen develops is called a “capability approach”. We believe that Sen is developing a new approach within the framework of the utilitarian theory, since classical utilitarianism cannot solve the problems associated with the phenomenon of justice. The authors of the utilitarian concept placed utmost importance on the greatest happiness of the greatest number of people, while Sen’s idea is based on the concept of human capabilities and freedoms. Capability maximization allows a person achieving what he values above all.
