Nowadays we observe a growing interest in the problem of identity construction, associated first of all with the dominance of the anthropocentric approach. Identity is developing throughout the life of a person and depends on many factors. This concept has long been studied in various fields of sciences, which made it possible to determine its complexity and multidimensionality. However, at the present time there is no universal definition that satisfies all the requirements of science. The article gives an overview of already existing definitions of identity and presents a comparative analysis of approaches to understanding the essence of "identity" through the prism of interdisciplinarity. In the article we made an attempt to generalize the existing definitions of identity and vision of this phenomenon as a continuous process of self-identification and formation of identity. Study of approaches and interpretations helps to systematize knowledge and provide an opportunity for better understanding of the mechanisms of personality becoming, which is particularly important in the era of globalization and strong focus on individuality.
