In this article, the author dwells on the definition of “the effectiveness of social and legal policy of the state”. The author suggests historical and theoretical plan of the concept “effectiveness”, which is applied in legal science; the author investigates the question of its use in international legislation. The structure and specific characteristics of the notion “effectiveness” are given. Author’s definition of “effectiveness of social and legal policy of the state” is suggested.
