The article discusses the prospects of the process commodification of information. Thanks to modern information and communication technologies, information exchange and the amount of information consumed have increased many times. Somewhere, the receipt of information was carried out and is carried out on a paid basis, and somewhere the information is provided on the principle of donation, somewhere free of charge. Different interpretations of information from the point of view of quantitative or qualitative theories of information, attributive or functional approaches create serious difficulties in understanding the prospects of commodification of information. An analysis of these approaches has shown that today importance of information in the regulation of socio-economic activity in a post-industrial society has increased many times, which is directly related to the question of the possibility commodification of information. Analysis of the concept of information allows us to argue that it can have consumer value and in certain social conditions can become the object of commodity-money relations.
