The article deals with guardianship of Kerch and Bugaz trade and its role in the foreign-trade policy of Russia in the Northwestern Caucasus. Basing upon the archival data study the author reveals the trade factor role in the relations between Russia and the Northwestern Caucasus. The undertaken research proves that guardian authority’s activities were of the many-sided nature.
