The procedure for familiarizing the accused with the materials of the criminal case at the stage of preliminary investigation: a modern practical view

Introduction: The article analyses the issues of the procedure of familiarisation with the materials of the criminal case at the stage of preliminary investigation and substantiates the need for its improvement. The author proposes an alternative procedure of familiarisation of the accused with the materials of the criminal case by handing the accused certified copies of the materials of the criminal case, including under certain conditions - electronic. Currently, there is a steady tendency to maintain a significant number of criminal cases, the term of investigation in which is extended for more than a year due to the length of familiarisation of the accused with the materials of the criminal case. Often the length of familiarisation is due to the fact that the accused abuses his right to familiarise himself with the materials of the criminal case.
