The article evaluates the possible impact of expanding the scale of distance employment on the economy of the northern region on the example of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). The attractiveness of work in the Far North and equivalent areas for employees and employers in the context of the development of distance forms of employment is analyzed on the basis of official statistics and data from open sources. Using the example of enterprises of the diamond mining industry and the IT industry, the processes taking place in the real sector of the region's economy are considered. It is concluded that the spread of distance forms of employment can help the northern territories meet the need for personnel, attracting the required specialists on the terms of distant work without need to live in harsh climatic conditions. At the same time, distant employment is one of the ways to reduce the costs of economic entities for the implementation of northern social guarantees. This creates prerequisites for the active transfer of work that can be performed remotely to regions with a more favorable climate. This process can lead to an even greater outflow of qualified specialists from the northern regions.
