Consequences of «Brain drain»: threats or opportunities?

The article analyzes the phenomenon of “brain drain”: it examines the factors that cause “brain drain”, defines the characteristics of the phenomenon, and assesses the nature of the impact of the process on the livelihood of countries. Today this process is a global trend that is gaining “popularity” as a result of the impact of globalization. In search of opportunities and resources to realize their own potential, “minds” actively move between states, choosing countries with the most “favorable” conditions. As a rule, scientific literature considers the process of “brain drain” as a problem, analyzes the negative effects and consequences. Nevertheless, it is important to note that the process often has a significant positive impact on society and the state. The conducted study of causes, features and consequences for both donor and recipient countries allowed a comprehensive assessment of this process. The results show that it is possible to achieve a balance between negative and positive effects if the right management strategy is implemented.
