Impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on global tourism

The coronavirus pandemic in early 2020 had a huge impact on the state and further development of almost all areas of the world economy, including tourism. The article examines the impact of the pandemic on the Russian tourism sector. The author identifies the problems faced by the tourism sector and presents their possible solutions. As a result of the restrictive measures, most countries around the world have been quarantined. Travel restrictions related to COVID-19 have been in effect since May 2020. The author assesses the possible industry recovery and the necessary conditions for this, considering the latest trends in the economy and society. This study examines the impact of COVID-19 on the global tourism industry market. The study found that with tight travel restrictions and closed borders, the pandemic has significantly affected travel-dependent industries such as travel services or air travel. By the end of 2020, the COVID-19 quarantine measures are projected to lead to a global loss of 121 million jobs and $ 3.435 billion in GDP. The scientific novelty of this study is to supplement the program approach to the strategic directions of restoring the financial and economic indicators of tourism in Russia. The assessment of domestic and foreign experience in implementing systematic measures to form a sustainable growth of the tourism and recreation sector made it possible to determine the reserves for improving the competitiveness of the industry.
