The crucial stages in the making of agronomical science in Russia are considered historically starting with formation of Imperial Moscow Society of Agriculture to our time. The significant contribution of especially brilliant scientists and public figures of Russian state to reorganization of agriculture was reflected. The importance of N.I. Vavilov's scientific heritage for a solution of problems of world plant farming have received profound attention. The succession, «interconnection between time and generations» during reformation of the Russian agrarian branch was shown. The author discusses a question of the position of agricultural science among existing knowledge system. The special emphasis was featured to problems of biological and ecological protection of agrosystems, to their environment-meliorative, resource-regenerative and nature-conservative functions. The current status of Russian agriculture was characterized. The strategy and conception of adaptive intensification of agriculture were evaluated.
