Potential of the innovative development of the enterprises of the metallurgical complex in the Russian Federation

The article discusses the directions for realizing the potential of innovative development for Russian enterprises of the metallurgical complex. It is noted that this issue is relevant, since the steel industry is the basic element of the national economy industry, ensuring the defense capability and national security of the state. It is revealed that the drivers of world steel consumption are currently changing and in the period up to 2025 the annual growth in steel demand will average 2.2% due to the intensification of the construction industry. It was determined that the realization of the potential of innovative development of sectoral enterprises is possible in the directions of increasing the technological novelty of production and transformation of business models down the value chain. It has been substantiated that steel companies need to focus on introducing product and process innovations in order to reach a new technological level with a general reduction in production costs and increase competitiveness with respect to alternative materials.
