Consumption and growth in today's Russian economy: theory and practice

This paper argues on the theoretical and methodological substantiation of the relationship between economic growth and household consumption and the empirical identification of the type of economic growth in Russia over the past decade. It is shown that from the point of view of the Keynesian research program, consumption plays a key role in the reproduction process, being the goal of production and determining, through the relationship with investment, its scale and dynamics. The classification of economic growth on the basis of the contribution of individual elements of the gross domestic product is highlighted. The growth rates of Russian GDP and its elements for 2011-2020 are presented. Based on the data on the outstripping dynamics of household consumption expenditures in comparison with the growth / fall rates of GDP, it was concluded that the growth in Russia is dominated by consumption. The possibilities and limits of this growth model are considered. The dynamics of the main indicators of monetary incomes of the population and their differentiation is presented.
