The article criticizes the opinion that consumption is considered as a sphere of noneconomic relations. In connection with this the history of views on the consumption role in economy is being analyzed. The author proves that the approach to consumption as a noneconomic sphere has enormous negative implications for market economy performance. Thus such categories as consumption effect, consumption output, consumption costs, economic interest and etc. are excluded from the number of the categories used in it. The article shows the ways to calculate the assessing consumption indicators with which a consumer could control the production efficiency himself. One should refer degeneration of marketing as a science and subject that can serve consumer interests in the market to one of the negative results of such situation.
