Introduction: the article deals with the conference in Potsdam in 1945, which was the last meeting of the top leadership of the anti-Hitler coalition. The authors of the article draw attention to the fact that the Potsdam meeting was different in nature from all previous meetings of the allies in the anti-fascist bloc. The article emphasizes that the us and British delegations, true to their policy of building diplomatic relations from a position of pressure and force, went to a deliberate confrontation with the USSR, initially deciding to reject the idea of cooperation with the Soviet Union. The authors draw attention to the fact that the successful conclusion of the Potsdam conference was a clear proof that the three powers that worked together during the war against a common enemy can, if desired, despite the existing serious differences in their positions, find a basis for cooperation in peacetime. Materials and methods: the research is based on historical and legal sources that allowed us to fully analyze the results of the Potsdam conference in 1945. The methodological basis of the research is based on generally accepted methods of scientific research of phenomena and social relations in their interrelation and interdependence. The methodological basis is formed by the historical and legal method, as well as the method of induction, which allowed us to identify the problem of the goals and objectives of the Potsdam conference in 1945, as well as other private scientific methods. Result of the study: the problem of double standards in the political and economic sphere, which was reflected in the issues of reparations and other important topics at the Potsdam conference in 1945, is highlighted. Findings and conclusions: the historic decisions taken at the Potsdam conference in 1945 corresponded to the liberating, anti-fascist nature of the war waged by the peoples of the three powers and their allied countries.
