The financing of the development of physical culture and sports in the Russian Federation is almost entirely entrusted to the budget system, which, in difficult economic conditions, threatens the formation of stable trends in the growth of indicators reflecting the level of development of mass sports in the country. The study analyzes the dynamics of the population systematically resorting to sports, the change in its share in the total number of residents, the change in the total amount of financing of physical culture and sports and the amount of financing of physical culture and sports per inhabitant in the period 2017-2021 is considered. It was found that the total amount of financing of physical culture and sports increased by 4.7%, but in the context of federal districts there were significant changes both in the amount of funding and in the redistribution of the shares of federal districts in the structure of financing of physical culture and sports of the Russian Federation. In terms of financing of physical culture and sports in 2021, the Central Federal District is leading, and in terms of financing of physical culture and sports per inhabitant in 2021, the UFA is leading. The number of people who systematically resort to sports has been increasing by 30% over the past five years, in four federal districts in 2021 its share in the total number of residents exceeds 50%, and the national average is 49.4%. The growth of key development indicators in physical culture and sports favorably characterizes the trends in the development of the industry in unfavorable economic conditions.
