The article deals with methods of increasing energy efficiency by means of reactive power compensation. The influence of reactive power on power losses and power factor reduction is analyzed. Modern methods of compensation including the use of capacitor banks, synchronous compensators and active filters are described. The economic and technical efficiency of implementing reactive power compensation systems to optimize the operation of power grids and reduce costs is highlighted for electricity.
