The article deals with influence of pragmatism philosophy on the formation of the modern education system. The author considers genesis of educational conceptions of training and education, implemented in the competence approach. It is concluded, that there is a transformation of educational foundations defining the content and structure of educational process, determined by the religious philosophies of Protestantism.
