Practical aspects of the protection of innovative development for its commercialization

The paper uses a case study to examine the process of developing an intellectual property management strategy that includes conducting patent research, benchmarking technologies, evidence of compliance with patentability conditions and selecting the optimal legal protection regime for the specific nature of the innovation project in question. Patent strategy formation for innovative projects involving juvenile inventors is highlighted in the paper. The object of the research is a new device, developed by the winner of the competition “School Patent -Step into the Future!” - a miniature CNC laser engraving machine. The need for comprehensive patent research at the various stages of the project is pointed out, as is the fact that patent protection is a demiurgeous and creative process. The practical experience of the authors is used as an evidence base.
