Practical ways of forming forensic thinking of the investigator

The professional activities of law enforcement officers require them to perform certain functions in the general matter of maintaining law and order. Each structure, which faces daily manifestations of criminal activity and offenders, has its own characteristics and specifics of activity. Employees who have been carrying out law enforcement activities daily for many years, influencing the environment, are themselves exposed to them both from the negative side of society and from the internal elements of the system of which they are a part. These circumstances force them to form special properties, of a physical and (crucially) mental nature. Despite the statement of some authors that human thinking is always the same, and there is no particular specific form of it, in our article we insist on the need, when considering a separate type of professional activity, to consider special decision-making algorithms, assessment of facts and other aspects of thought processes of this kind of professionals. Experienced investigative officers often look at various criminal manifestations and information about crimes in their own way. Their view of some things can sometimes differ substantially from how ordinary citizens who are not involved in law enforcement relate to these things. Sometimes you can find differences in how an investigator or an employee of the inquiry body, whose activities are closest in their focus to the activities of the investigator, assesses a particular situation. In this article, we considered some aspects of the formation of a novice investigator, his acquisition of competencies, the state of formation of which is necessary for effective work in the units of the preliminary investigation. At the same time, we want to draw the attention of readers not so much to methods from the field of scientific and forensic knowledge, pedagogy, educational activities of specialized educational institutions that graduate specialists of the narrow specialization “Preliminary Investigation,” but to processes existing in practicing bodies, where until the end of the 90s of the XX century. in the preliminary investigation bodies they served without legal education.
