Practical use of high-performance two-phase termosiphon devices

In the article, the authors offer options for the use of heat exchangers with thermosiphons in electric power plants and in boiler stations. Recently, many foreign companies have begun to develop their heat exchangers using closed two-phase heat transfer devices, thermosyphons. In heat exchangers made on the basis of thermosyphons, the transfer of large heat flows is achieved, since the latent heat of vaporization of the coolant tucked into the device is large, and even with a small temperature difference between the ends of the heat exchanger, it can transfer a significant amount of heat. Despite the simplicity of the idea, the design of heat exchangers can be extremely diverse and depends on the conditions of application, the media used and other factors. Under certain conditions, the heat exchanger with thermosyphons can be used instead of the usual heat exchangers, as they will have some advantages. The schemes of using such heat exchangers as oil coolers and air coolers of a gas turbine installation are considered. Analysis of the described schemes shows that their use allows to solve the problem of environmental pollution, increases the reliability of the gas turbine installation, the simplified design of the device reduces operating costs and also allows the use of low-grade heat.
