The organization and functioning of the provinces on our territory had been within the limits of such a territorial autonomy being scientifically shaped and implemented in the world until the Constitution of the Socialistic Federal Republic of Yugoslavia brought in 1963. The changes occurred in the late 1960s, especially in the years following the adoption of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia in 1974, when autonomous provinces became a phenomenon unprecedented in the field of the comparative constitutional law. The first attempt to change the status of autonomous provinces was made after the adoption of constitutional amendments to the Constitution of Republic of Serbia in 1989. Finally, in 1990, the Constitution of Republic of Serbia reduced the capacity and reach of the autonomy on these territories to reasonable limits. The Constitution of Republic of Serbia from 2006 put a political and territorial autonomy into the context in an innovative manner concerning its constitutional concept additionally located within the specific human rights framework.
