The article considers the process of creation an image of modern oriental country by the Russian priests. The author is interested in categorical apparatus and representation of images and that is the most important - in ideology, which substantiates the exclusive right of the Russian Orthodox Church to expert, «objective» opinion concerning “a spiritual condition” of the Mongols. Keeping the language stylistics of “native ethnography” of the XIX-th century, the priests describe not only problems of religion, but also political processes in the country.
