Orthodox mission through education: schools of Nikolay Ivanovich Ilminskiy in the second half of the 19th - early 20th centuries

Readers’ attention is brought to the historical essay on the history of the Orthodox mission in the Kazan region, the biographical information about Nikolay Ivanovich Ilminsky, an outstanding missionary and educator, the description of the structure of the missionary and educational system established by him and its achievements. It is noticed, that since the second half of the 19th century and up to the 1917 revolution thanks to Ilminsky’s missionary and educational ideas Kazan was the centre of missionary activity of the Russian Orthodox Church.
