The purpose of this article is to analyze the relations between the Orthodox and Muslim clergy and the Bolsheviks from the establishment of the Soviet power in the Simbirsk province in December 1917 to October 1918, when Simbirsk province was finally occupied by the Red Army during the civil war. The article deals with regional peculiarities of the first anti-church activities and repressions of the Bolsheviks, aimed at weakening the influence of the clergy of Simbirsk province.
