The review considers the book Between two evils. The Orthodox clergy in the temporarily occupied territory of the RSFSR in 1941-1944 by the young historian Ivan Vasilyevich Petrov from St. Petersburg, which was published in 2021. The monograph is devoted to the activities of Orthodox clergy in the Nazi-occupied territory of the RSFSR during the Great Patriotic War. The review analyzes the approach to studying such a complex and controversial topic. Interest caused by the topic and certain part of his concept in the monograph can be considered important. At the same time, the review examines and evaluates some of I. V. Petrov’s biased and politicized conclusions. The review particularly emphasizes I. V.
