Legal support for the activities of the coast guard of the Republic of Korea

The article is devoted to the analysis of the legal status and legal support for the activities of the Coast Guard of the Republic of Korea. The author analyzes the regulatory framework that ensures the activities of the Coast Guard; shows the place of this service in the executive branch of the Republic of Korea. Currently, the system of executive authorities of the Republic is determined by the Law on the Organization of Public Administration. In accordance with this law, the Coast Guard is shown to be subordinate to the Department of Oceans and Fisheries and is its “external agency”. The powers of the Coast Guard are also regulated by the Coast Guard Law, the Law on the Performance of Duties of a Police Officer, the Code of Criminal Procedure and other regulations of the Republic. The article analyzes in detail the provisions of Korean legislation on the structure and competence of the Coast Guard. The status of Coast Guard personnel is examined in detail. Crime investigation is an important part of the Coast Guard’s mandate. The role of the Coast Guard in ensuring law and order is shown.
