The legal status of employees of penal institutions in the Western Siberia during the New Economic Policy

On the basis of normative legal acts of the central and local authorities (Regulation of Penal Institution of the RSFSR (1920), Charter of Prison Service (1925), and others), the author analyses the legal status of penal institutions personnel in the Western Siberia in days of the New Economic Policy, their financial position, privileges and incentives provided. It is concluded that in the late1920-s the prestige of serving in prison was growing, which, in particular, was determined by the improvement of the socio-economic situation in the country.
