The mass media, being a key institution of civil society, inform people about what is happening in the country and the world, as well as provide a feedback channel between society and the state. With the help of the media, citizens can control the activities of state authorities and local self-government, without which modern civil society cannot exist. It is obvious that in order to provide objective information, the media must have freedom and independence. However, the absolute freedom of some may harm others, so the freedom of the media is not unlimited, and their activities objectively need legal regulation. At the same time, the legislative establishment of the boundaries of media freedom should not turn into censorship, and the legal regulation of media activities should not hinder their independence and independence. The article analyzes the legal regulation of mass media in Russia, assesses the limits of "freedom of action", discusses the constitutional provisions of freedom of mass media distribution, and identifies the problems of legislative regulation of mass media activities.
