Legal framework for digital technology in the handling of solid municipal waste

Бесплатный доступ

The population growth and the rapid urbanization lead to a significant increase in municipal solid waste. Today the problem of waste collection, transportation and waste utilization is quite acute. The municipal solid waste collection operations are inefficient and consist of regular scheduled removal of sub-surface containers, which can often be overfull or empty. As a result, operators who dispose the waste have an increased number of visits, which leads to inefficient use of labor and time resources. The inefficiency of the municipal solid waste management system leads to the environmental degradation, to the decrease of living standards of the population, high operating costs, and in the future can lead to serious environmental consequences. The solution of the problems of the waste management industry can be connected with the introduction of digital technologies for the waste collection, transportation and disposal. Along with the development of digital technologies, legislative initiatives play an important role in the issue of waste management. The development of the industry can only be achieved through legislation that includes public-sector waste management programmes and public-private partnerships.
