The paper examines the legal basis for the use of video conferencing in criminal proceedings. The author analyzes Russian and foreign legislation, international law norms that determine the regulatory framework for the use of video conferencing in criminal proceedings. A number of positive aspects of the use of video conferencing are highlighted, and the stages of development of the use of video conferencing systems in criminal proceedings are indicated and defined. It is noted that the evolution of the use of video conferencing systems is characterized by the expansion of the stages of criminal proceedings and proceedings that allow the use of the technology under study. There is also a gradual spread of video conferencing technology among participants in criminal proceedings. According to the results of the study, the conclusions are formulated that the information transmitted during a video conference session can be saved and used in the future during criminal proceedings; video conferencing can and should be used in pre-trial proceedings, taking into account the conceptually uniform format of the court session in the judicial and pre-trial stages of the proceedings.
