The article presents the results of sociological surveys of the employed population, including data from a survey conducted in 2023. The objectives of the study were to identify the interest of Russians in entrepreneurial activity, as well as the perception of the difficulties of its implementation. An all-Russian sociological survey was conducted by the Research Center for Socio-Political Monitoring of the School of Public Policy, RANEPA. 1,500 people aged 18 years and older were interviewed in 30 constituent entities of the Russian Federation, using a sample representing workers in the main types of economic activity employed in enterprises of various forms of ownership, the ratio of residents of different types of settlements, socio-demographic and professional groups of people. Survey method: personal formal interview. Despite the efforts of the state to stimulate entrepreneurial initiative and remove barriers to doing business, according to sociological surveys over the past 20 years, there has been no increase in potential entrepreneurial activity among the population. The key obstacles to private entrepreneurial activity in the opinion of respondents are the lack of sufficient funds, lack of necessary knowledge and experience, competition from other entrepreneurs and high taxes.
