Preliminary data on fauna and distribution of chironomids (Diptera, Chironomidae) from Russian Arctic islands

The distribution of chironomids from the Novaya Zemlya, the Franz Joseph Land, the Severnaya Zemlya Archipelagoes, the New Siberian Islands and Wrangel Island is given. The subfamily Orthocladiinae is dominated on all islands. The absence of the subfamily Prodiamesinae have overall feature of faunas. The most part of species from the Novaya Zemlya, the Franz Joseph Land, the Severnaya Zemlya Archipelagoes and Wrangel Island have Holarctic distribution, other species have Palaearctic distribution. Palearctic species dominate over Holarctic species on the New Siberian Islands.
