Transformation of the Vologda theological seminary under the new charter in 1869 (based on the materials of the audit report)

The degree of elaboration of the issues of source study of the history of secondary theological education in the Vologda Diocese is insignificant today. Based on previously unpublished sources on the history of the Vologda Theological Seminary, the article examines the state of secondary theological education at the time of the transformations according to the imperially approved new Charter for theological schools in 1867-1869. The article considers the changes in the teaching and educational process and administrative and economic activities carried out at the time of the first audit by appointment of the Holy Synod by a member of the Academic Committee, Privy Councilor S. V. Kersky in 1869. The auditor’s report served as the main source of this article. The audit materials are preserved in the collection of the Educational Committee of the Russian State Historical Archive (RGIA. Coll. 802). The report is an important source on the history of theological education. The study contributed to the identification of the specifics of the reform of theological and educational institutions based on the example of a specific seminary. The article contains important remarks and generalizations of a specific historical nature.
