Purpose. To investigate the characteristic features of the presidential republic, to identify the logic of the organization of the state power in the relevant form of the government, to analyze the specific features of the competent interdependence of the supreme government bodies that reflect the peculiarities of so-called tough separation of powers. Methodology: The comparative legal and formal-legal methods of investigation are applied in this article. Results: The specific features of the competent interdependence of the supreme government bodies intrinsic to the «tough» separation of powers have been investigated in this article as well as the most important intrinsic disadvantages of the presidential republic that ultimately occur under the conditions of undeveloped civil society and instability of the democratic political institutions have been identified in this publication. Novelty/originality/value: Scientific and practical value of the article is displayed in the analysis of the constitutive disadvantages of the presidential republic, of the danger and consequences of their restoration in the presidentialized republics of the former Soviet Union area.
