Causes of failure of the diocesan authorities from promotion of the clergy in the late 18th - early 19th centuries. (on materials of Tobolsk spiritual consistory)

Introduction. The author considers the issue of refusing to increase the position of clergy on the example of one of the most extensive diocese in the Russian Empire. Methods. Attracting a wide range of sources made it possible to highlight the problems that arose during this personnel procedure. The methods of historicism and comparative historical analysis made it possible to reveal the features of the appointment to the post of ministers of the Russian Orthodox Church in the Tobolsk diocese at the end of the 18th - beginning of the 19th centuries, to determine the reasons for submitting applications for promotion by clergy in that period. Results. The reasons for the negative responses of the diocesan authorities to the requests of clergymen for their promotion were determined. Analysis of archival materials makes it possible to talk about the presence in the late 18th - early 19th centuries. the set of documents required to obtain the post of deacon, subdeacon, priest, ordination in the clergyman. Findings. The issues of documenting labor relations in the historical plan are practically unexplored. The scientific novelty of the article lies in the fact that previously the question of refusing to upgrade a post in the Russian Orthodox Church has not been studied. It is revealed by the author in the documentary vein based on the first used archival sources.
