With this article, we continue the cycle of scientific publications devoted to the study of the causes of suicidal behavior among the indigenous peoples of Siberia - the Yakuts, Evens, Evenks, Altaians, Buryats and Tuvinians. The presented material examines the role of the patriarchal family as a factor that prevents suicidal behavior. It is shown that the structure of a large patriarchal family and the social hierarchy of family relations satisfied the basic need for affiliation necessary for representatives of cultures of the traditional type. With the loss of the values of the patriarchal family, there has been a change in its internal organization and social role functions. The modern family is a new social institution, more characteristic of individualistic cultures, which does not correspond to the needs of indigenous peoples. The decline in family cohesion and the lack of emotional contacts are manifested by destructive tendencies and suicidal behavior.
