Application of GIS program for finding the geographical center of the Republic of Buryatia

Numerous studies and calculations of specialists at different times allowed finding the geographic centers of Europe and Asia, the Russian Federation and a number of other territories. They used cartographic, geometric, mathematical and other methods for this. With the introduction of the latest computer technologies, it became possible to find the geographic center of the Republic of Buryatia by means of GIS technologies. For this purpose, we have used space images and navigation programs of the GIS package ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS 10.8.1, Global Mapper and SAS Planet. The key criteria for application of these computer programs are the accuracy of calculations, allowing us to view, convert, transform, edit and print various maps and vector data sets. This technology makes it possible to find the geographic center of any territory. So, we have analyzed literary sources devoted to the problem under study, assessed application of GIS technologies in finding the coordinates of the geographic center, and determined the geographic centers of the Republic of Buryatia and 21 administrative regions of the republic. Thus, finding the geographic center of the Republic of Buryatia has social, cultural, practical and educational significance. Finding the geographic center of any territory is carried out using the ArcGIS Pro GIS package.
