The Mössbauer effect is the resonant emission and absorption of gamma rays without recoil. It has an essentially quantum nature and is observed in the study of crystalline, amorphous and powder samples containing one of 87 isotopes of 46 elements. The article deals with the study of the physical foundations of the method of Mössbauer spectroscopy, as well as an acquaintance with the practical application of the Mössbauer effect and the prospects for the development of Mössbauer spectroscopy.
