Applicability of the "spiral of silence" to the Internet and new media

The article provides a general analysis of the influence of «spiral of silence» on the Internet users. The article traces the changes in this influence depending on the type of user’s anonymity and the possibility of being a subject to social pressure. Conclusions introduce the opinion about the «normalizing» effect of social networks on the implementation of «the spiral of silence».
