The principle of self-dependence of judicial authority in the context of the constitutional reforms in the Republic of Armenia

The article discusses some aspects of constitutional reforms in the Republic of Armenia, which guarantee the implementation of the principle of an independent judiciary. In particular, issues related to the activities of the Supreme Judicial Council (assignee of the current Council of Justice) as a guarantor of the independence of the judiciary and the selection procedure (appointment) of judges are separated. The article reviewed the changes that were made during the constitutional reform, assessed the reforms underway, based on the recommendations of international organizations and international documents. On the basis of a comprehensive analysis, practical recommendations are proposed for further improving the legislation regarding the implementation of the principle of independence of the judiciary, in particular, the activities of the Supreme Judicial Council and the selection (appointment) procedure for judges.
