Effective development of retail trade to a great extent depends on the trade assortment of goods offered to the public sale. For maintaining the competitiveness of trade enterprises need to increase its turnover on the formation basis of goods optimum assortment. The basic principles which must be observed and factors which must be considered when forming the assortment of commodities in retail trade enterprises are investigated in the article.
