The topic under study is devoted to the problem of ensuring the transfer of domestic mechanical engineering to an investment and innovation basis, the level of development of which determines the country's economic growth in the near future, and is also of great importance for the sustainable development of the country's economy and the implementation of its structural transformations. It analyzes the sources of investment, their directions and the possibilities for developing this industry depending on its investment security. The role of mechanical engineering in implementing innovative activities in the sectors of the country's economy and increasing its competitiveness is highlighted. The main attention is paid to the analysis of the current state of this industry and identifying the reasons for the slow increase in its production capacity, which is necessary for developing recommendations on the use of the public-private partnership mechanism and the cluster approach to the development of mechanical engineering. The use of this mechanism also makes it possible to develop entrepreneurial activity, establishing mutually beneficial relations between its entities. Against the background of positive trends in the development of mechanical engineering, a number of unresolved problems are also considered that need to be solved through modernization and diversification of production in order to ensure the release of high-quality mechanical engineering products that meet the requirements of international standards.
