The article is devoted to the analysis of the essence of functioning of urban communities. The authors indicate a growing role of urban communities in modern society, and note the special role of information and communication technologies in the process of creation and functioning of urban communities. The paper analyzed 11 situations in various settlements of the Yaroslavl Region in 2018-2019 to typify urban conflicts with participation of urban communities. Based on 4 criteria (the presence of political actors among participants, presence in the information space, dialogue with authorities, conflict resolution options), two types of conflicts: politicized and non-politicized are identified. The authors concluded that intra-urban conflicts are becoming a factor in the formation, development, and cohesion of urban communities, while their active functioning can lead to prolongation and escalation of urban conflicts that threaten the seamless functioning of the city's social space.
