Privatization of industry in Komsomolsk-on-Amur and its impact on social development of the city in 1992-1995

The article reviews the process of privatization of industrial enterprises in Komsomolsk-on-Amur during the voucher privatization of 1992-1995. The research determines the state of industrial development of Komsomolsk-on-Amur in the early 1990s, highlights the features of privatization of its industrial complex. Using the city archives and the personal records of Komsomol members, the authors reveal the influence of the privatization process on the city development, identify the signs of a social crisis. They include population decline due to fertility reductions and internal migration to other regions of the country, high unemployment, low living standards of the citizens. It is noted that an increase in criminality in Komsomolsk-on-Amur led to the deterioration of the demographic situation. The article distinguishes the following factors that allowed the city to maintain its industrial base: the export orientation of enterprises and the conversion policy of military production.
