On Love and Beyond: Romantic Encounters, Partnership Practices, and Marriage Strategies of Migrants from Central Asia

The article examines the main social practices characterizing romantic relationships, partnerships, and marriage strategies of migrants from Central Asia living in the Russian Far East, involving local women. The research is based on a qualitative methodology, with unstructured interviews as the primary data collection method. Statistical analysis and secondary sociological data were also utilized. The findings indicate the spread of non-traditional, flexible forms of relationships. Traditional forms of marriage are losing influence, while flexible intimacy becomes the dominant model. Relationships between migrants from Central Asian countries and local women are shaped within different cultural systems and vary according to the degree of integration into the host community.
